Because the extension works on what your browser already has open, it does not depend on any external site having archived it; it works with content posted a minute ago and keeps working as long as you can see it.
And the audio, when there is any
Videos with sound let you extract just the MP3. What X calls a GIF has no audio by definition, so that option does not appear there — nothing is failing, there is simply nothing to extract.
